The bunkering industry has stringent accuracy requirements, as the margin of error in custody transfer applications is razor thin: even a 0.5% error would amount close to a whopping USD 95 million in losses. As a marine solutions provider and an authorized verifier for mass flow meter, Singapore-based Metcore sought a solution that meets the highest accountability requirements set by local authorities and international standards.

The challenge
In Singapore, more than 200 mass flowmeters (MFM) are installed aboard the bunker vessels, safely monitoring nearly USD 19 billion worth of transactions. With so much at stake and the bunkering industry's demanding requirements for validating the performance of duty meters, something special was needed to ensure the continuity of the bunker custody transfer operations. Given the challenges presented by the application, meter verification with a master meter was the only viable option.
Our solution
Endress+Hauser provided Metcore with an innovative master meter system that allows for easy, quick and reliable proving (calibration) of duty meters directly on site. The system – offered as a compact skid – combines high-performance Coriolis flowmeters with a flow computer. With traceable Coriolis mass flowmeter verification, Metcore was able to enhance the credibility and reputation of Singapore as a major international port.
